You need to show your English language proficiency to your employer, you are looking for a job or study program in an English-speaking country ? Then you must start your preparation for the TOEIC, TOEFL or IELTS.
What level do you need to get the TOEIC ?
First of all, the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) is a diploma well-known and admitted by companies in the entire world. This certificate is issued by ETS Global and is valid for 2 years. You can validate your English language skill from A1 to C1 in a professional framework, either in Listening & Reading or in 4 skills including also writing & speaking.
Who can take the TOEIC exam ?
Every English speaker above 16 years old and A1 level can register to take the TOEIC.
Your level in English will be determined according to your score on a total of 990 points and ETS indicates an equivalence to the CEFR.
If you get a score between 120 and 224 points, you reached the level A1.
If you get a score between 225 and 549 points, you reached the level A2.
If you get a score between 550 and 784 points, you reached the level B1.
If you get a score between 785 and 944 points, you reached the level B2.
If you get a score between 945 and 990 points, you reached the level C1.
How to prepare for the TOEIC ?
Obviously, the English teacher at 195 ILSA can prepare you to the TOEIC exam with one-on-one online courses and specific exercises so that you are ready to pass this proficiency test of English language.
Test 2 skills
The day of the exam, you will have to perform listening (100 questions in 45 minutes) and reading (100 questions in 75 minutes),
Test 4 skills (Test TOEIC® Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing)
The test will be split into 4 parts : listening (45 questions in 25 minutes), speaking (5 tasks in 20 minutes), reading (45 questions in 37 minutes) and writing (3 tasks in 60 minutes).
That’s why we will basically work on real exam subjects from the previous years.
Where to take the TOEIC exam ?
After your preparation for the TOEIC, you can register for the 2 skills or 4 skills test in the closest exam center that you can find on ETS Global. You don’t need to tell your level in advance.
How much does it cost to take the exam ?
If you register for the Listening & Reading TOEIC test, the cost will be 189 euros. You will get your result within 3 hours.
If your register for the 4-skills TOEIC test, the cost will be 216 euros. You will get your result within 7 days.
What are the differences with TOEFL ?
While the TOEIC is oriented towards businesses and professionals communication, the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is more academic and is often requested to enter University in English-speaking countries.
TOEFL iBT® is the one to validate your academic English in 4 skills at University level (reading 30 minutes, listening 29 minutes, writing 23 minutes, speaking 8 minutes).
You will receive an overall score on the 1-6 scale and also on the former 1-120 scale.
You may also register for other tests such as TOEFL®Essentials™, TOEFL ITP® or TOEFL® Young Students Series : TOEFL Primary® and TOEFL Junior®.
TOEFL score is valid for 2 years.
What are the differences with IELTS ?
You can choose whether to take the Academic or General Training (IELTS International English Language Testing System).
IELTS is also recognised to get UK visas and there is specific test for this prupose.
IELTS is issued by Cambridge English but you can also register on the British Council website to book a date for IELTS exam or on the IELTS website.
The exam costs about 250 to 300 euros and your score will be valid for 2 years.
A score of 3 – 3,5 is similar to A1 on the CEFR.
A score of 3,5 – 4 is similar to A2 on the CEFR.
A score of 4 – 5,5 is similar to B1 on the CEFR.
A score of 5,5 – 7 is similar to B2 on the CEFR.
A score of 7 – 8,5 is similar to C1 on the CEFR.
A score of 8,5 – 9 is similar to C2 on the CEFR.
